Travel & Logistics
Arriving in Italy
Flying into MILAN
Milan is the closest major city to our venue. From here it is a roughly 1h30m drive to Sulzano (from where you will take a short ferry ride to Castello Oldofredi).
Hotel recommendations:
Site-seeing:
For anyone arriving to Milan before the wedding, we will be doing some leisurely site-seeing on Sunday September 8th, all interested are welcome to join!
Flying into ROME
While Rome is not the most convenient to our venue, it certainly feels very Italian to land in Rome and spend a few days wandering around. Bonus - most US cities have direct flights in/out of Rome for a lower price than Milan. Should you chose to use this as your point of entry to Europe, you can either rent a car and drive directly to our venue or take the train to Milan and connect with our optional arranged transportation.
Hotel recommendations:
Site-seeing:
Vatican
Colosseum
Piazza Navona
Trevi Fountain
Spanish Steps
Pantheon
Train reservations:
Via ItaliaRail (Roma Termini > Milano Centrale). Expect the train ride to be 3h - 3h30m.
Travel to the venue
Getting to the venue is a two-step journey, but we promise it’s worth the effort!
Milan to Sulzano
BY CAR - Sulzano is an easy 1 hour 30 minutes drive from Milan via the autoroute. Depending on your travel plans renting a car and driving yourselves (or carpooling with other guests!) may be the best option for you. Rentals are easily available in Milan through companies like Sixt, Hertz, Avis etc - most cars in Europe are manual so verify your selection when making a reservation to ensure you have a car you can comfortably drive. Once you arrive in Sulzano you will need to park in long-term parking (Via Tassano 14, Sulzano) which is 8 EUR/day.
GROUP TRANSPORT - We are planning to arrange transport from a central meeting point in Milan to take those who prefer not to rent a car to Sulzano. You can indicate if you plan to take the group transport on our travel survey. We will communicate time, location, and other necessary details via email as the date gets closer.
Sulzano to Castello Oldofredi
The ferry:
Sulzano is a small town, if you are driving yourself you can easily find the ferry port, roughly 10 minutes on foot from the long term parking lot. If you are taking group transport you will be dropped off at the port.
You will take the ferry to ‘Pescheria Maraglio’ - it is a roughly 5-10 minutes ride. There are both open air and covered seat options.
Tickets are available at the office by the dock. Return fares are 6 EUR (50% reduced for children 4-13, free for children 0-3) and large luggage may be charged an additional 1 EUR 30 at the discretion of the ticket office.
The walk:
There are no cars on the island! So upon disembarking it is a 5-10 minutes walk to Castello Oldofredi.
You will continue along the path next to the water, shortly after walking past the Pharmacy you will see signs for the venue. Follow them up the hill and you will be welcomed!
